Manchester City form in Danger

Manchester City’s form during the early weeks of January was in danger of nose-diving after star striker Sergio Aguero was not expected to be back until the middle of the month.

Aguero has already been missing for the last few weeks. Manuel Pellegrini does not seem to trust the likes of Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic much.

This has led to the team opening negotiations with Swansea over the transfer of Wilfried Bony, who could cost in the region of £ 30 million. Up until the arrival of the Ivory Coast international, City have been able to carry on with James Milner in leading the line.

The former Newcastle United midfielder is not necessarily known for playing as a striker. At the age of 29, he was not expected to be transformed into a frontman. Necessity, though, has brought out the stage and Milner has more than responded to this challenge by scoring some crucial goals in this position. The most important contribution so far came in the FA Cup third-round match against Sheffield Wednesday when Milner came on from the bench to score a brace that turned around the match. The England international says that he has been taking tips from Aguero, who is expected to return in the next few weeks.

“I used to play there when I was younger and it’s nice. I definitely prefer it to right-back.It is a bit different obviously. Most of the game is with your back to goal really but you are making different runs. But I have been playing football a long time now.You learn your role but when you train every day watching the likes of Sergio Aguero, and watching football, you take notice of things and then if you are asked to do that job you know how to do it,” said Milner.
